Please do not use production groups for test postings, people posting
here expect answers. Use one of these for connectivity and test posting.

Does Microsoft censor posts slightly critical of Office 2003? Lets see if this goes thru using a fake name and email address.

Hi Ho Silver
restore testing, problems
0 replies , 8/22/2005, 8:10:02 PM
I am running Brighstor ArcServe Backup 9 on SBS2000. We have a backup box that gets a test restore every 3 months. In doing a "full" restore of drive contents, registry and AD to the backup box(created by imaging the production server) we seem to get all needed items restoring. However when I then try to restore Exchange it fails. If I restore to just a straight image, without first doing the restore of the drives, AD and registry, it work fine for the Exchange restore. The error I get in the logs refers to: HrESERestoreOpen failed. I have followed CAs suggestions on trying to resolve this. I have even created a new user in AD and tried to assign them to sever operator, backup operator and Domain Admins as well as any other group I can think might help. CA says I need to use a user that has the Userright assignment to backup files and folders. I am having trouble finding and setting this option and could use some direction on what I am missing. Any ideas are appreciated since I seem to create a rights issue when I try the entire restore method. Thanks, Bruce

On board NIC test
5 replies , 2/7/2008, 9:50:29 PM
Can I remove a Linksys LNE100TX NIC from a WIN98SE PC and continue to use that PC without harm to the PC? This is my wife's PC and I can't take any chances with it. If this might cause any harm to the software or hardware on her PC then I will gladly spend $20. to buy another NIC and leave her machine undisturbed. I need to use the Lynksys NIC to test a Biostar NF325-A7 MOBO in a newly built PC. The onboard NIC on that MOBO may be bad and I know of no other way to test it other than to install another NIC. Will I need to disable the onboard NIC before I install the Linksys NIC and if so how can I do that? I have reinstalled the OS and the drivers on this newly built PC and configured the onboard NIC several times. When I run WINIPCFG I only get PPP adapter info. If I run IPCONFIG from a DOS window I get the following: 0 Ethernet adapter : IP Address. : Subnet Mask . : Default Gateway . : On a my other PC's with properly functioning NIC's I get the following: 0 Ethernet adapter : IP Address. : Subnet Mask . : Default Gateway . : 1 Ethernet adapter : IP Address. .: Subnet Mask . : Default Gateway . : I have manually assigned IP addresses to all of the PC's. I have dialup modems on two of my three PC's and am using only a switch (no router). Device Manager does not show any problems with the onboard NIC. I have not installed a modem in this PC. There is a default dialup adapter that is installed with the OS and I have tried to install a driver thinking that I might need a modem driver installed in order to get the onboard NIC to work but it didn't. I would appreciate your help.

Skills assesment tests?
2 replies , 7/20/2006, 8:53:31 PM
Hi, One of my managers came to me today and was wondering skills assesment testing for Microsoft Office applications. She's starting the interview process for an accounting position and wants to have select candidates take an Excel skills test as part of the process. Has anyone had any experience with these types of tests and can you recommend one or some? I'm not really sure where to start looking. We are using Office 2003, if that matters. Thanks in advance, Linn

uninstalling Office Test Drive; leaving my Word
3 replies , 7/7/2005, 2:54:05 PM
I have my own MS Word program (CD) which is installed on my new IMac (it came across from my old Mac when I migrated the old Mac's HD.). Unfortunarely my new iMac came with a test drive version of MS OFFICE which expires in a few weeks. I do not need the Office components, only my own Word. I tried uninstalling the Test version, byt the uninstaller wants to uninstall everything, including my own Word copy. This is unacceptable because I write and have many important Word files. Is there any way to get rid of the Test Office version while leaving my own Word intact on the hard drive. I don't know whether my own Word CD will allow me to re-install Word on the new machine. It would be using the CD a second time on a different Mac - something I think MS would not allow. Furthermore, I am afraid I will, as I said, lose all my Word documents. Thanks for help. Tom

I have a few unit test's and the methods tested requires different membership roles (EG. [PrincipalPermission(SecurityAction.Demand(),Role = @"domain\testGroup)")]) I would like to test the different functions both with a user that has the needed rights and a user that does not, but I cannot find a way to set login credentials on a test method. I have tried to obtain a WindowsIdentity via LogonUser (advapi32.dll) and then impersonating the identity from within the testmethod but the security check fails. If I run the same code from a Command Console program the security check does not fail. Is there anyway to set login credentials on a testmethod? brgds martin

Hi, While I am recording any external site say Google (which appear on my machine via Proxy server) using VSTS tool, it works fine, i.e. recording is done successfully. Now, when I have to playback the same recorded scripts, manually, some Proxy settings needs to be done in the property of Web test which was recorded. So I give the Proxy server name and run the recorded script. When the Proxy server name is mentioned without giving the Port name in the web test property, I get the following error when test run starts : HTTP/1.1 403 Forbidden ( The ISA Server denied the specified Uniform Resource Locator (URL). ) Connection : close and When the Proxy server name is mentioned along with the Port name(format is Proxyname:Port name), I get the following error when test run starts : HTTP/1.1 407 Proxy Authentication Required ( The ISA Server requires authorization to fulfill the request. Access to the Web Proxy filter is denied. ) Proxy-Authenticate : Negotiate,Kerberos,NTLM Can any one help me in resolving this issue ?
