Trying to install Office 97 on Windows XP

Help! Have new machine with Windows XP. When I put the
Office 97 CD in the drive I get absolutely nothing. I
recently had to reinstall the program on my old computer
so I know it isn't defective. I'm running it on Windows
98 on my old computer. I can play music CDs and I can
install How to Be A Millionaire on the new computer. How
on earth do I install Office 97? I've tried Add/Remove
Program in Control Panel. Somebody said that I might have
AutoStart for CDs turned off. Where do I find that to
check? I'm still using old computer until I can get the
new one up and running --- which means the new one isn't
connected to the Internet yet. Could that be a problem?

Have you tried using Windows Explorer to navigate to the root directory of
the CD? Look for a file named setup.exe and double-click to run it.

Incomplete Installation ID
1 replies , 3/9/2007, 3:28:46 PM
When I try to reactivate Office XP I am told my Installation ID is incomplete. It is seven groups of numbers, and the last group has only three numbers. I reactivated over the telephone (with the same set of numbers) in July with little problem, but now I am told it is a technical issue. Could someone please offer me some advice?

Problem in installing ultimate steal
0 replies , 6/19/2009, 2:06:05 PM
I made a purchase on ultimate steal and decided to get DVD kit as well. I tried to install by loading the program from the disk via upgrade and custom install, and in both cases, after installation, Windows Update will not work - am I doing something wrong with the installation? I have tried diagnostics and this tells me the Update Diagnostic is not working even though I have followed all the appropriate steps, so I cannot identify the problem. I have had to uninstall Ultimate. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks -- ashn0tray ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ashn0tray's Profile: View this thread:

When going to some websites I am getting a message box saying similar to "feature you are trying to load, Microsoft 2000 SR1, cannot be found. insert disk". I have had it, 2000 SR1, installed for 3 years and do not want to add any supplemental features if that's what this is about. Not having it has no effect on the website. How can convince it that its already there? Secondly why should a website want Office installed? One example website is SG

Install Enterprise Manager without MDAC2.6

I'm trying to install only enterprise manager on a terminal server that has MDAC 2.7SP1. When I do the client only install, it tries to install MDAC2.6 over MDAC2.7SP1. How can I just install the enterprise manager without installing the old version of MDAC. I'm worried that if 2.6 installs itself it will corrupt a lot of the database access I'm using from that box. Thanks, Shawn s********

Office 2003 Install
2 replies , 5/5/2004, 4:01:00 PM
I just purchased a new computer with a 60 day trial version of Office 2003 on it. I also purchased Office 2003 Student/Teacher edition. The Operating system is XP Home When I load the CD, I do not get what the manual describes under step-by-step installing. What I do get is a screen that says Office11 (f:) at the top followed by a number of folders: OWC11 Setup STD11n OWC10 Readme Readme This is not a typical CD step-by-step install process that I have ever seen. I suspect that somehow the trial version is affecting the installation process. Any help would be appreciated, I certainly I have not received any from Microsoft (Is it just me or has Microsoft given a whole new meaning to the term Support?)

install problems

I'm using Office 2000 on WinXP. I recently added a second hard drive (30GB) to my computer and moved everything from the old hard drive (12GB) to the new hard drive (or so I thought). But after that, every time I opened any Office application, I'd get an installation dialog box that would tell me my computer was completing the installation process (or something close to that). I was wondering if it had something to do with moving all my files from the 12GB (old) drive to the 30GB (new) drive. That's when I discovered that the MSOCACHE folder was still on the old drive. Someone directed me to this article: I apparently didn't do such a good job following the instructions. I opened Win Explorer and deleted the MSOCACHE folder -- and *then* I read on another page that you should NEVER do that. Of course, it didn't say why and I've not had any problems since doing so. I've run MSO repair, but my MSOCACHE folder is still missing, and I still get the annoying install thing before my applications will open. Can anyone help me sort out this mess? (And if your instructions include anything about running something from a command line or using the setup.ini file, I'll need explicit directions -- I don't know how to do either of those things.) Help!

Cannot re-install
1 replies , 9/25/2006, 8:46:02 PM
I did install Office 2007 Beta. It was working fine. I then downlaoded the Beta2 upgrade & installed it. There was a conflict with my version of Norton Internet Security 2006. My virus updates were current, but I would get warnings when opening Excel & could not open any files. So I uninstalled Office 2007 to rid myself of the beta2 upgrade. I then tried re-installing the original Office 2007 beta. I cannot get it to re-install. It will go as far as the screen where I accept the terms of agreement after entering the product code, select customize from the following screen (although choosing upgrade makes no difference), choose to keep all applications except (naturally) Outlook, the starting installation screen comes up & then I get an error message which reads as follows: Microsoft Office Professional Plus 2007 (Beta) setup did not complete succussfully. We are sorry for the inconvenience. An error occurred during the installation, and Microsoft Office Professional Plus 2007 (Beta) setup was unable to complete. Please tell Microsoft about this problem. Then the standard "Send Error Report" and "Don't Send" buttons. I have sent the error report three times. After uninstalling, I have deleted the Office 12 folder, and the entries in the registry under Software in both Current User, & Local Machine. Where do I go from now?

Installation of Office on Netbook
2 replies , 3/29/2010, 12:26:01 AM
I recently got a Netbook, and I have MS Office Home and Student 2007. My netbook only has 1.25 GB of ram. I was wondering if there is anyway to at least download MS Word & Powerpoint? It says I have 3 licensed and I've used one on my main PC. When I downloaded it to my netbook, then tried to install it, it said that it failed to install. I thought it may have to do with the ram. My hard drive has lots of space on it. I'd like to be able to use at least MS Word to do Resumes on my netbook. Any help is appreciated. Thank-you

Administrative Installation Point install not patched
0 replies , 10/25/2006, 8:36:02 PM
Hi Guys, I am having a problem regarding the Office installation from an administrative share. I patched my administrative share with the following command: msiexec /p [patched path] /a v:\off2003\pro11.msi /qn /lv* [log path] I did the september and october 2006 patches and their log files said that all patches were installed successfully. I am using this admin share to install Office 2003 in our image build process. After the image had finished installing everything, I ran MBSA2.0 and found that the patches I just installed were missing. Does anybody know what had happened? Is there something I missed? Thank you very much for the help.

Moving sbs2k3 installation to new HW
3 replies , 12/11/2003, 1:55:31 PM
Hi I have a sbs2k3-standard installation running and I want/need to move it to new hardware. What to do? My AD is configured to use an official (i.e. non .local- extended) domain name, due to remote email access via Outlook-2k3. My main concern is moving the Exchange-databases. If there is no other way to migrate/move from one installation to another but to reinstall everything from scratch, so be it BUT (there always is a but;-) there has to be a way for me to move my Exchange-databases without having to export everything to .pst-files and manually hacking everything in again per user. Any help will be greatly appreciated Regards Jon

Hello, I was installing VSTO on a Windows 2003 Enterprise Edition (evaluation copy) when it said that i needed Office 2003 SP1 in order to continue. I've downloaded it from the microsoft site but when trying to install it, i got the following message: "The expected version of the product was not found on your system" I already have Office 2003 installed and i really cannot understand what seems to be the problem. I would be very grateful if i could get some help. Thanks in advance.

Installing the Add-In, "Analytical ToolPak" is supposed to install "PHStats" and it is supposed to place "PHStats" in the top menu along with "Tools", "Data", etc. -- But when I "successfully" install Analytical ToolPak, in ONLY adds "Data Analysis" to my Tools menu -- but it does NOT add PHStats anywhere. Picture Manager not Installed for Current User
1 replies , 5/12/2008, 10:19:47 PM
Office 2007 We have a test group that is currently evaluating Office 2007. One of the users in the trial is getting a message when she attempts to open a bitmap file. The error is: Picture Manager has not been installed for the current user. Please run setup to install the application. I went into Add/Remove programs, selected the Office 2007 entry, clicked the Change button, and stepped through the screens until I found the page that shows the installed options. The Picture Manager is definitely installed. I have run a couple of Google searches and have not found much on this specific error. Although, now that my user has left for the day a couple of things do occur to me. First, I only saw the error with one file and did not try other files. Second, we did not try opening Picture Viewer first and then opening the file (we opened it by double-clicking the bitmap file). If I had not been up until 3:00 A.M. last night I would probably have thought to try these things! ;-) Any suggestions you may have will be greatly appreciated. I will post back the resolution when we have one. --Tom
