Can't import entourage messages
1 replies , 1/23/2007, 7:08:21 PM
I just bought a new mac and am running OS 10.4.8. A few months ago, my old version of entourage (Office X) on my old mac stopped opening. Everytime I tried, it gave me the "entourage has unexpectedly quit" message. So when I got my new mac, I tried to import all of the messages, addresses etc. I created a new identity, and found the "Main Identity" folder from my old mac. It imported all my addresses, preferences...everything except my old messages. I've tried several times with the same result. I know they're there, my database file is like 1GB, but for some reason, the new entourage program won't import them. Does anyone have any ideas??? I'm dying here! Thanks for any help!

Hi, I have an excel template which holds various data which is currently being inserted manually. What I'd like to achieve is to insert these data automatically from an Access database. For example, I have a product database. On the other hand I have an excel template that holds data of all products, groupd in it's category. For instance, in the cell A5, I'd like to extract a data from the database, the qty sold for rugs where it's category is household. How do I get to that?

I'm not having any success with importing my contacts from OS X's Address Book to Entourage's Address Book. In OS X's Address Book Preferences the default Vcard version (3.0) is selected. When I choose "Import" in Entourage, I choose to import information from a text file. I next choose to Import contacts from a tab- or comma- delimited text file. When I then go to choose the file to import from the drop-down menu I am told that the exported Vcard/s are not compatible or something to that effect. What am I doing wrong? Thanks, Philip.

importing file names and data - change to original
1 replies , 8/31/2003, 9:58:06 PM
Hi all, i have a change to the original requirement that I had with this problem when I thought that each workbook would be just one worksheet, now it seems there would be 6. What I want to do is to import all the file names from a specific folder (c:\Jobs) into my worksheet, listing them down the A Column, then alongside all of these job names, i need in B1=data from sheet 1, cell g1, then c1=data from sheet 1, cell g2, d1=data from sheet1, g3, d1=data from sheet1, g4, e1=data from sheet1, I35, e1=data from Sheet2, I35, f1=Sheet3, I35, G1=data from Sheet4, I35, h1=data from Sheet5, I35 and finally i1=data from Sheet 6, I35 Of course, if no data exists in these cells I wish for nothing to be entered. I have tried working with what i already have (thanks Davi): Sub summarize_jobs() Range("A2").Select Set fs = Application.FileSearch With fs .NewSearch .LookIn = "C:\jobs" .FileType = msoFileTypeExcelWorkbooks .Filename = "*.*" If .Execute > 0 Then For i = 1 To .FoundFiles.Count ActiveCell.FormulaR1C1 = Right(.FoundFiles(i), Len(.FoundFiles(i)) - InStrRev(.FoundFiles(i), "\")) ActiveCell.Offset(0, 2).FormulaR1C1 = "='" & ..FoundFiles(i) & "'!R3C3" ActiveCell.Offset(0, 2).Copy ActiveCell.Offset(0, 2).PasteSpecial Paste:=xlPasteValues, Operation:=xlNone, SkipBlanks _ :=False, Transpose:=False ActiveCell.Offset(0, 5).FormulaR1C1 = "='" & ..FoundFiles(i) & "'!R3C8" ActiveCell.Offset(0, 5).Copy ActiveCell.Offset(0, 5).PasteSpecial Paste:=xlPasteValues, Operation:=xlNone, SkipBlanks _ :=False, Transpose:=False ActiveCell.Offset(1, -7).Select Next i Else MsgBox "There were no files found." End If End With Application.CutCopyMode = False End Sub but am lost as to how to make these changes to get so much more information. Please can someone help? The last little glitch is this. I also require it to put information into cell j1 from sheet1, J2. This will be YES or NO, and from that, I wish k35 to add all the cells showing figures in the I35 data cells (e1:i1) unless the word YES appears in j1, then the total will be zero. In other words, e1:j1 = costs of jobs, if YES appears, then the cost of the jobs is not taken into consideration in k35. I hope that makes sense. If not, would be happy to do a manual worksheet showing info required for someone who would like to help me. Again, TIA sheila

Importing data

hi I would like to import data from the web and although this is quite simple in Excel 2003 the new data (that comes in upon refresh) replaces the old. I was wondering if there is a way to keep previous history of the data, make Excel fill in adjacent cells with the new data for example. Thanks for taking the time to read this George

How can I import "Packed" mainframe data into Excel?
9 replies , 6/13/2006, 12:26:02 PM
I've copied a file from an IBM Mainframe computer to my PC and need to do some analysis in Excel. Some of the fields in the file are "packed" - for example, the format of one field is " P(9.2). On the mainframe, that takes up six bytes, so $5.90 is stored as "00000000059F" (the last bit is the sign). This is NOT "hex" but an old convention that breaks each byte (EBCDIC 8-bit) into two, 4-bit parts and stores one decimal value in each part. Suggestions about how I can get this format into Excel without having to re-format the data in a mainframe program first? HEX2DEC is not an answer because "packed" fields are not true HEX values.

Importing Data

I am using Microsoft Excel 2003 and I am trying to import data from one worksheet to another. I found out how to import the data, but I can not find out how to get the data that I am importing to go into the labelled cells that I want them to go into. Is there any way that I can get Excel to do this, or am I searching for something that can't even happen?

Hey All! :) I'm back! and so is my computer, with a new hard drive! :) Now I need to figure out how to get my Entourage X data from an external disk drive into Entourage X on my Powerbook G4. My computer came back with a new, blank, hard drive inside it. I've installed Office X and have received some emails through Entourage. Now I need to get all of my Entourage data (emails, drafts, addresses, etc.) from the external disk drive that I backed it up to, back into Entourage in my Powerbook. My concern is that because I have already received some email after the new install of Entourage X I'm concerned that I might lose that new email while moving my "old" Entourage data back in to my Powerbook. Can anyone help? Thank you very much! Diane ps: John (McGhie), I am watching for questions I can answer. :) The first one I answered I answered wrong and someone came in and corrected it but that might have been at the Apple boards rather than here. I'm watching though. ;)

Check out the important package

Importing txt or csv file as text and only text
4 replies , 3/3/2007, 7:24:29 PM
How come, after all these years and versions of Excel, an option has not been added that will allow the user to "turn off" the default conversion of certain text strings to numbers and dates when importing text files? All there seem to be are annoying work-arounds, the multi-step text- import wizard, techniques to undo a conversion that wasn't requested in the first place.

I have imported data from an accounting program and the date format is 20070101 for January 1, 2007. I have looked at various sites that would use Left(),Mid(),Right() to break the numbers and then put them back into 2007/01/01 but was wondering if anyone had a simpler solution. Thanks, Lee Coleman

Importing a .txt and exporting it again.
7 replies , 9/2/2004, 1:15:06 PM
I've got a .txt file that I need to sort before uploading into an accounting system. I open it with excel and all data is in Col A. Then I seperate it out into it relevant fileds using data, text to columns. It isolates the data I need to sort by perfectly. Then i sort it. Here is my prob. When i save the file again as a .txt there have been tabs added to it. I think this will casue problems to my upload. I've tried saving as ms-dos txt, tab-delimted txt..., but to no avail. has anyone any ideas on what i can do? I'm open to approaching the problem in a completely different manner, i.e. Access, SQL server?? BTW the data in the .txt file is seperated by spaces. Regards, Ciar´┐Żn
