critical updates

When I get a list of updates, Microsoft says I need a critical update for Office 2003. I think there was a trial version of Office 2003 on my computer, but I never used it since I had an earlier version. I have purchased, installed, and registered Office 2007. Do I still need that Office 2003 update, and assuming no, how do I get rid of the message and attempt to install it by Microsoft Update?

Version: 2008 Operating System: Mac OS X 10.4 (Tiger) I am able to download the "critical" update but then it comes up with a message saying that it is unable to install the update because I don't have the necessary software to do the installation. Excuse my ignorance but what extra software is required and where can I get it?

Timeline with critical date markers

I want to create a chart which shows a series of data inflating over time, with vertical bars marking critical points in time. These critical dates are input in individual cells in the spreadsheet, rather than being series. I don’t want to just ‘draw’ lines and overlay them on the chart because the critical points will change when the dates change. Any ideas?

Critical Read-Only Problem
5 replies , 8/1/2008, 8:31:18 PM
We have our files shared via SMB on a Leopard 10.5 server (fully patched). AFP is not turned on. I'm using Office 2008, fully patched, on Leopard 10.5.4 clients. Every file I open that's on the server, either Excel or Word (and probably Powerpoint as well, haven't tried it yet) opens up as Read- Only. It doesn't matter if I use File > Open or if I double click the file directly from the Sharepoint. The files are not read only, however. I can open up the same Word document in say, Texteditor, make a change, and save it just fine. I can rename or delete or move the file using the Finder, so I know I have all the right permissions to it. I can open the same file in OpenOffice and save it just fine. All my ACLs and permissions check out from the server end. I can duplicate this problem on any client in my network, with the majority of the files on the Leopard xserve. If use the Finder to copy the same Word document to a share on a Windows 2003 server, it opens up fine. If I use the Finder to copy the same Word document to another location on the Xserve, it still opens up as Read Only. PC users that have Office 2003 also connect to the SMB shares on the Leopard server and haven't had any problems. They are not trying to open any of the same files - again, it's not about the file being locked or set to read only, as other applications can open and save the files, just not Word 2008 or Excel 2008. Any ideas? This is.. well, infuriating that none of our Office 2008 clients can save to any Word or Excel files on our Leopard server!

Hi, I have a very urgent problem on hand that I cannot figure out. I have a query in Excel that is retrieving data from Access. This query is then linked with a pivot table in the same spreadsheet. A sample record is Origin Destination UnitID Toronto Vancouver 5365 Now when I try to add the UnitID field as a coulumn in the pivot table it gives me the message "A field in your source data has more unique items that can be used by the pivot table" How can I fix this? If I have two records with the same unit ID that I just want one to appear in the pivot. How can I do that? Thanks a lot - Castor

Can't do Office "critical" updates for MS bugs
0 replies , 10/29/2003, 6:30:15 PM
I installed my office 2000 on my new computer before I moved. I moved twice, having to take care of my father for 6 months before he died. Now I can't find a lot of my original software and I can't find the number to do the updates to correct the security holes & bugs that Microsoft left in the product I purchased. I can't find anywhere to ask if they have my registration information. I'm really learning to despise Microsoft - they charge huge prices for buggy software and then want to CHARGE you to fix it. My next computer will be an Apple.
