Can you open Office 2007 docs in Office 2003 from code?

Does anyone know if it's possible to open Office 2007 documents in Excel &
PowerPoint 2003 from .NET code (using COM interop) when the Office 2007
compatibility pack is installed?

I managed to get Word 2007 to work, but not Excel or PowerPoint. Any help
gratefully received.

PS. Sorry for the cross-post; not sure which NG to target.

It should work. Does it work in the UI (as an end-user)?

And using automation HOW does it "not work"?

Silent Uninstallation of Office 2007
0 replies , 3/22/2007, 5:56:34 AM
Hi, I had recently deployed Office 2007 Enterprise Edition to the PCs in my company silently using the customised msp file and pointing the config.xml file in the suit i am installing. However, i wonder if there is any way to uninstall Office 2007 silently. So far i am unable to find any information on that in the internet. I suppose there should be a reverse way to silent installation since Office 2003 is able to install and uninstall silently. - .NET Developer Portal of Choice

Office Clipboard

Hey all I have a query relating to the clipboard. The issue occurs when Word (for example) is not runnning and I copy something, then open Word to paste the image into a new document, the clipboard contains no information and therefore I am unable to paste the image. If however Word is open then I do the copy and paste it works. I assume this has something to do with the Office Clipboard, however it is really annoying. Is there a way to work around this, or is it by design? It appears to happen in Office 2000 and 2003 (Havent tested 2002). Cheers Cameron

Prompting for Office Open XML Format
1 replies , 9/24/2008, 9:34:26 PM
How can I ask Excel 2007 to stop prompting me to save my spreadsheets in Office Open XML format? Excel does this every time I save a password-protected spreadsheet for the first time in a session. It's telling me that Office Open XML has better security, which is fine, but I need my spreadsheets to be compatible with Excel 97-2003. Thanks for your help. Daddy

Office 2002 and 2003

I have had problems getting both Office 2002 and Office 2003 to work with the new Windows XP Service Packs. I originally set up my system with Windows XP and downloaded all the service packs and upgrades. I then installed Office and likewise downloaded and installed all the upgrades. As soon as I load any of the Office programs, mainly Word, the system tells me that it has recovered from a serious error and needs to be restarted. This happens each time I try to load it. The only way I have been able to prevent this is to not install any of the XP service packs. I dont know if it is just one of the upgrades that are not compatible or the whole enchilada. I have tried to e-mail microsoft about this problem and got no reply. Does anyone out there have a solution to this problem. If not does anyone have any suggestions for a compatible software package to Office, preferably not one made by Microsoft.

Scroll wheel double-click not recgonized in Office apps
0 replies , 11/15/2006, 2:45:06 AM
This is a problem that has been asked many times over the past few years, and I've seen no clear solution. On several of my computers, Office apps do not recognize the double-click issued by my mouse's scroll wheel (aka Middle Button). In and file open/save dialog, I have to click the wheel twice, or do a normal left button double-click. Any other app on the computer deals with the wheel's double-click just fine. This is currently seen in Office 2003, using both MS and Logitech mice. All have most current drivers. Strangely, it is not a consistent problem as on some (a minority for me) computers the double-click is properly recognized. Thoughts? Val

Office Communicator 2005
2 replies , 3/31/2009, 7:15:00 AM
Hi , I have Windows Vista on my laptop, running windows communicator 2005 in it. For authentication purpose I need to download the CA certificate from a private url of my company. When I click on the link to download IE7 gets hung saying "Downloading ActiveX Controls". I think this works only with IE6 I guess. I need to know the following. 1. How to make Office communicator 2005 access this certificate through mozilla ? Since mozilla has this certificate installed. Presently certificate verification is happening through IE7, so it gives verification error. 2. Even if we want to install this certificate through IE7 whats the solution so that IE7 doesn't get hung or become inactive by giving the error "Downloading ActiveX Controls". 3. Any other alternative to install the CA certificate and make the authentication for office communicator 2005 work. Any replies will be of great help. Thanks -Amar

Office 2003 and Office 2007
1 replies , 2/19/2008, 7:33:00 AM
Have just bought a new laptop with Office 2003 and i wish to install 2007 but keep Office 2003 as the default version. 1. Would it be a good idea to partition the hard drive and put 2007 in the smaller partition to prevent any problems. 2. I see from previous correspondence that they will run in tandem on the same drive (apart from Outlook); if that is the case, if i require 2003 to be the default app should i uninstall it, install 2007 and then 2003 as i gather that the last app installed will become the default app? 3. I assume Excel 2007 is backwards compatible and i will have no problems running 2007 Excel macros on 2003. -- with kind regards Spike

When I go to the Office Online Office Update it checks off that I should install Office XP Service Pack 1 (SP-1) for Office 2000 programs. The OS is XP Home. When I open the individual programs (Excel, Powerpoint, Word, etc.) they all indicate that they are Office 2000 programs. When I check them in System Information, Office 10 Applications, they are listed at Office 2002 programs. Should I download the Office XP Service Pack 1 or the updates for Office 2000 products? TIA. I recently updated from Office 2000 Premium to Office 2003 Professional, and I was wondering what happened to the Office toolbar, that was in both Office 2000 Premium, and 2000 Pro. That was a great little extra. I liked the way you could put all of your desktop icons on it to clear up your screen. Is it possible to get this feature somewhere, and where can I get it? Please let me know if anyone knows. Thanks.

Hi... I am trying to uninstall all remnants of Office 11 - for instance, it has Frontpage 2003 and I don't need it - but I can't find a way to do this. Office 2003/11 is not listed as something to uninstall in my ADD/REMOVE programs. I have FP coming up on a scanned list of outdated software, and I just want to remove Office 11. How can I do this? Thanks... Andy

Office updates won't intall

I see a lot of these postings, but none that seem to be a duplicate of what I'm encountering, so I thought I would give it a try. I've got 5 updates that constantly sit in my tray without installing. I've tried numerous times, and all I get is "....failed". No message, no error code....just "failed". Other Windows updates are installing fine, but the ones pertaining of Office won't. Someone told me first to ensure the Windows Genuine Advantage update has installed, and it has; but that other than that, I would need to remove and reinstall Office--that something's been corrupted (forget what he said it was). This would be Office 2003, Visio 2003, and Office2000 (I just use the Shortcut bar and PhotoEditor from that version). I really hate to have to do that unless absolutely necessary, so I thought I'd just try one last time to see if anyone's encounter this problem and successfully resolved it. Thanks for any help.... These shortcuts were only installed when you selected the New and Open Office document Shortcusts item during a complete installation of Office. What took the place of those shortcuts in Office 2007?
